Rabbit Sitter Foster City
Foster City is a town built around the lagoon — and the people who live here tend to travel far and travel often. Biotech professionals heading to Boston or RTP, tech workers commuting up to SF or down to South Bay, families flying out of SFO for long stretches over school breaks. If you keep a rabbit (or two, or three) in a Foster City home, you already know the gap: the kennel down the road won’t take her, and the friend-of-a-friend who said they’d “watch her” doesn’t actually know what GI stasis is. House of Guineas exists to fix that.
Our team comes from San Francisco down the Peninsula several days a week. Our founder, Alexandria, is an exotic veterinary assistant and a House Rabbit Society volunteer in Richmond, where she administers subcutaneous RHDV2 vaccines under vet direction. She lives with Chungus and Puppy Dog (a bonded pair) and Johnny Wohnny (her HRS foster turned forever rabbit). Rabbits aren’t a side service. They are the heart of what we do.
Why a Vet-Trained Rabbit Sitter Matters in Foster City
Foster City is a longer drive from a 24/7 exotic ER than Burlingame or San Mateo, which makes early detection of trouble even more important. A generalist sitter who’s used to dogs and cats won’t know what to look for. We will.
- RHDV2 vaccine awareness. California is endemic for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease. We will not handle unvaccinated rabbits in homes where vaccinated rabbits are also present. We can talk you through getting your rabbit vaccinated if you haven’t yet.
- Bonded pair handling. Bonded pairs need to stay bonded — even temporary separation can break a bond. If one rabbit needs medication and the other doesn’t, the protocol is different from a single-rabbit visit. We know the difference.
- GI stasis recognition. A rabbit who’s stopped pooping is a medical emergency. We watch for the early signs at every visit — small or absent fecals, hunched posture, refusing favorite greens, teeth grinding.
- Long-trip protocols. Biotech and tech families often travel for two-plus weeks at a time. We’re set up for longer visits — restocking hay mid-trip, swapping out litter as needed, monitoring weight if your rabbit is pre-disposed to issues.
- Litter and hideout cleaning that respects rabbit psychology. Rabbits are territorial. We don’t deep-clean while you’re away — we maintain.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle long trips for Foster City families?
Yes — multi-week trips are a big part of our Foster City clientele. We're set up for them: hay restocks mid-trip, weight monitoring if your rabbit is pre-disposed to issues, and consistent updates that tell you the difference between "everything is normal" and "let's check in." If you're going for more than two weeks, we'll usually recommend a small adjustment to visit cadence — let's talk about it at the meet-and-greet.
Do you handle bonded rabbit pairs?
Yes — bonded pairs are actually our preference. A bonded pair handles your absence dramatically better than a solo rabbit. The main thing we ask is whether the bond is rock-solid or relatively new, and whether either rabbit needs separate medication.
Can you administer my rabbit's medication?
Yes. Oral syringe meds, topical applications, and subcutaneous injections (with vet direction) are all part of our standard scope. Our founder's experience administering subcutaneous RHDV2 vaccines through the House Rabbit Society means sub-Q is something we are genuinely comfortable with.
How do I find a Foster City-area rabbit vet?
Foster City doesn't have an exotic-specialty vet within city limits — your nearest options are All Pets Hospital in San Mateo and Peninsula Pet Hospital in Burlingame. Our Peninsula exotic vet directory lists every exotic-savvy vet in San Mateo County, plus the Bay Area emergency options.
